Service staff needs to improve their English - it was greatly disappointing that the Japanese restuarant service people could not communicate in English and a fellow dinner who is Japanese had to step in to help us order our meal. The restuarant manager was useless too - no customer focus - he spoke english but did not come forward to help. Consider adding in English menus as this hotel caters to quite a high number of intnl clientele ...

Nice position, very easy to find without getting lost. It's not close to the city centre but the underground is 2 minutes far away. They provide a limousine service from\to Narita airport very useful.

Everything about the hotel was good ... but the best was the ariport limousine which picks you up right from the lobby... would strongly recommend this to anyone who wishes to visit Tokyo

excellent service by the hotel staff, could qualify as a 5* hotel in most european capitals, excellent location, excellent breakfast buffet

The hotel is very attractive and the staff exceptionally helpful. The rooms and facilities were very comfortable. While not close, the connections to Narita airport are convenient.

The hotel is very attractive with extremely helpful staff. The rooms and facilities were clean and comfortable. For our purposes the location is excellent. While not close, connections with Narita airport are convennient.

The restaurants and lounges tend to be expensive, so we did not use them.

Central location, close to subway / train for ease of acess. I would recommend it based on price & location but not on comfort.

Rooms were small and very dated. I booked a twin room as had heard the rooms were small and got a free upgrade to a double room so my efforts were wasted !!

We've been upgraded to a room with a view. Lovely view, in fact, from the 21st floor! The staff was very friendly, and we got some great advice about where to eat, what to do and where to go. Room was very clean, and they kept on cleaning in every single day, replacing everything.

the informality and the position of the hotel

bar prices excessive and breakfast prices forced us to breakfast out

Each of the Hotel Staff provides excellent service. As this was my first trip to Tokyo, lots of information was provided upon enquiry. Was surprised when i rechecked in to the hotel upon my returning from Osaka, my room was upgraded.

Great convenience of the Narita airport bus dropping you at the door.Convenient access to the Ikebukura train station. The Traditional Arts & Crafts center nearby was fantastic. The refridgerator in the room was a plus. The little lobby bakery was nice. My wife loved the bidet/toilet seat, but those are everywhere in Japan - even in the airport toilets.

The room was quite small. The bed was not comfortable. The food prices in the hotel were ludricrous. The street noise and train noise was quite noticeable at night. The gym was expensive but nice.

    Superb

I stayed in the Metropolitan for 12 days as I was organizing a longer stay in Japan. The location is extremely convenient, with only about 100 meters walk to the Ikebukuro station and all major train and metro lines as well as the connected shopping facilities (Tobu, Seibu, Lumine, ...). While Ikebukuro is not as popular as Shibuya or Shinjuku, it also has very good shopping (E.G. Sunshine City, Tokyu Hands, Bic Camera, Labi,...) and other services (many restaurants), and as a major transport hub, you can get anywhere in Tokyo very swiftly - so generally the cost/benefit ratio staying here is favourable. The hotel has a high standard with nice albeit small room, all bathroom amenities, empty fridge for your own shoppings, an e-safe (safe with power supply for chargers). I was lucky to get a room in the 23rd floor which is the top one and gives a very nice view. Everything worked flawlessly, and the staff spoke excellent English. While my trip was more business oriented, I can recommend the hotel also for tourism. I did not use hotel restaurants, so no experience, but I often bought food from excellent and reasonable priced Seibu or Tobu food courts and the many Family Mart etc around to eat in my room, and having a non-crowded fridge is very helpful for that. Many restaurants around the area. The rate I got for my original reservation for a Single Standard Room was around 9000 yen which is good in Tokyo, but then I extended my stay for another 5 days and as I wanted to stay in the same room and had been upgraded, I made a new reservation through Booked.net and got a new rate at about 11000, which is still good in Tokyo, and much better than the 23000 the hotel would have charged me if I had reserved the extension at the front desk. So it definitely pays to use Booked.net!

Wired internet is free and fine but wireless would be more convenient. A bad policy is that the hotel is strict about the 14 o'clock check in time, so if you arrive early in the morning like I did, you have no choice but to wait around before you can get to take a shower and freshen up, even if they must have rooms available already earlier. (However, in the end I got a reward as they upgraded me to a higher class room, apparently as the lower ones had filled up, so after putting up with the initial discomfort I was very happy for the rest of the time.)
